Match Evaluation:
Cameroon started with defeat with Japan and have had a pretty grim time in South Africa. Their first defeat - to Japan - was a bit of a surprise and some of the senior players blamed it on the young guns. After their second defeat - to Denmark - coach Paul Le Guen had to insist he would not resign. He may be asked to leave anyway - sticking Samuel Eto'o on the wing and letting Dennis Rommedahl look like a world-class player will not have enhanced his reputation. Cameroon was eliminated after a 2-1 defeat against Denmark. Cameroon needed a win to stay in the race to qualify after losing their opening group game.

Cameroon and the Netherlands have clashed twice in the past. The first meeting between the teams in 1998 produced a goalless draw, while Netherlands prevailed 1-0 in their second meeting in 2006.

Cameroon remains a shadow of the team that impressed at the 1998 World Cup, losing four and drawing one of its last five matches. The team squandered a one goal lead in its game against Denmark to lose any chance of making the next round of the tournament.

They took the lead when Samuel Eto was the first to score when a pass by Christian Poulsen allowed Pierre Webo to pounce as he charged down the left wing and kicked to Eto. He fired a low shot past Thomas Sorensen. Dutch began to assert itself and took control from the 20-minute mark.

The Dutch are more used to internecine strife than most, but have apparently been free of it to this point in the tournament. Without Arjen Robben, they have struggled to get past a couple of firm defences. And with a second-round game to come in four days' time, Bert van Marwijk might now take the best of the rest out of the starting XI too. Even so, Le Guen's Cameroon don't have a firm defence, look like a team going to ruin and the Dutch reserves - in particular, Eljero Elia - are very dynamic and easily capable of finishing them off. The value lies with the Netherlands.

The Dutch, meanwhile, remains in superb form and looks like a likely finalist in these early stages of the 2010 World Cup. The team has won all five of its last five matches and is unbeaten since September of 2008 and expect to win this game as usual.
